MANILA, Philippines —The anti-corruption rallies in Manila continued to gain traction as high-profile celebrities voiced support, urging accountability and change.
Pop superstar Sarah Geronimo took a bold stand during the UAAP Season 88 opening ceremony on September 19, addressing the flood control corruption issue. “Pinaikot-ikot lang tayo. Tama na! (They’re just fooling us. Enough!),” she declared, encouraging the youth to remain hopeful and fight for reform.
Meanwhile, comedian-host Vice Ganda amplified the movement through his massive social media reach, calling on Filipinos to gather at Luneta Park and EDSA Shrine for the anti-corruption rallies. While his physical presence has yet to be officially confirmed, his campaign significantly fueled public engagement.
Actress Anne Curtis also lent her voice to the cause, using her social media to highlight the importance of honest taxpaying and government accountability, stressing that such values are vital “for the sake of the next generation.”
Several alumni of “PBB Celebrity Collab Edition” — Esnyr, Klarisse De Guzman, Shuvee Entrata, and Brent Manalo — joined in by posting their support for the nationwide rallies on Instagram.
The growing wave of celebrity-backed protests against corruption conveys how the movement is resonating not just among ordinary citizens, but also among influential figures in entertainment.
