Alfredo Pascual Leaves DTI After Two Years

Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, who spent two years in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet, has resigned from his role as director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Pascual gave an explanation for his choice to rejoin the private sector in a statement that was made public on Wednesday. “After much reflection, I have decided it is time for me to return to the private sector,” stated the man. “There, my roles will allow me to continue contributing my expertise and experience while being able to spend quality time with my family.”

Pascual made clear that he was fully committed to promoting the nation’s economic development and growth when he took on the position of Secretary of Trade and Industry. He was appreciative of the chance to help and described the experience as “one of the most challenging yet fulfilling experiences” of his professional life.

In Malacañang, he had a meeting with President Marcos to tender his resignation. “Serving in the Marcos Cabinet has been an extraordinary privilege and honor. I take pride in our collective achievements at the Department of Trade and Industry,” Pascual said in reflection on his time in government.

Pascual performed notable roles prior to being appointed to the DTI in June 2022. From 2011 to 2017, he served as both president and co-chairman of the University of the Philippines System and president of the Management Association of the Philippines.
