Alangalang Golden Bell Secures Second Win; Abante Macarthur Wins Overtime Thriller in Quarterfinals

JARO, LEYTE – The Alangalang Golden Bell and Abante Macarthur continued their impressive run in the Lolita Cup Season 2 quarterfinals, securing their victories on August 3, 2024. The match, held at the Jaro Gymnasium, saw a standout performance from the quarterfinalists teams. 

Game 1: Alangalang vs. Mayorga (5:00 PM)

The first game started with both Alangalang Golden Bell and Mayorga Mallorca showing strong offensive strategies, but Alangalang quickly took control. 

Mark Joseph Barrantes was in top form, demonstrating his scoring prowess. Despite Mayorga’s efforts to close the gap, the Golden Bell maintained their lead, thanks in large part to Barrantes’ exceptional performance. His 36 points were instrumental in securing the victory, earning him the title of Player of the Game.

The final whistle blew, and the scoreboard reflected Alangalang’s dominance with a 92-80 win. The Golden Bell’s fans erupted in cheers, celebrating their team’s continued success in the tournament.

Game 2: Macarthur vs. Jaro (7:00 PM)

The second game of the night featured a thrilling overtime battle between Abante Macarthur and the Jaro Warriors. In a nail-biting finish, Macarthur clinched their first win of the quarterfinals with a final score of 104-101.

The Jaro Gymnasium was filled with tension as both teams fought fiercely for the win. The game was evenly matched, with neither team able to pull away. The Warriors, backed by their home crowd, put up a strong fight, but Macarthur’s determination never wavered.

Averyll Lumbre emerged as the hero for Abante Macarthur, scoring 26 points and leading his team through the intense overtime period. His skill and composure under pressure were evident as he made crucial plays that kept Macarthur in the game.

As the overtime period unfolded, both teams traded baskets, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. In the final moments, Macarthur managed to edge out the Warriors, securing a hard-fought victory.
