Senator Angara Named New Head of Education Department

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang announced on Tuesday that Senator Juan Edgardo Angara has been named by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as the new Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

As to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Angara’s official acceptance of the position preceded the announcement during the 17th Cabinet Meeting at Malacañang.

“Senator Angara has a substantial legislative history, having championed significant education reforms since he joined the Senate in 2013,” the PCO said.

“His notable legislative accomplishments include the Universal Access to Tertiary Education Act and the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (K to 12),” it continued.

After Vice President Sara Duterte resigned as Education Secretary on June 19, 2024, Angara will take over.
