A 15-year-old boy is facing a parricide charge for allegedly killing his mother inside their home in Panglao, Bohol. Police said that an investigation into the incident resulted in a case being formally filed on November 5, 2026.

A 40-year-old woman was found dead in Barangay Looc, Panglao town. Initial police reports said the teenager admitted his part in the killing, which reportedly happened on the night of October 30.

It began with a mother arguing with her son, investigators say. Reports say the argument started when the mother reprimanded the teenager for skipping classes again and again.

The boy reportedly grabbed a hammer during the heated argument and repeatedly struck his mother. The teenager then dragged her body to an abandoned septic tank near their house, police said.

The victim’s body was discovered on Oct. 31 after a neighbour saw something suspicious around the abandoned septic tank. Residents reported the find to the authorities, who immediately began an investigation.

The police went over the area and found blood inside the family’s house. Investigators also recovered a hammer thought to have been used in the incident and blood-stained materials that could be evidence in the case.

The teenager was later interrogated by authorities and reportedly confessed to being involved in his mother’s death. The Women and Children Protection Desk and other police units assisted in the investigation.

The 15-year-old was turned over to the Panglao Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO). The social welfare authorities are responsible for ensuring the safety and care of the minor until the legal process is completed.

The case will be processed under the country’s juvenile justice system, officials said. Children in criminal cases are given special protection by the law taking into account the gravity of the alleged offence.

The minor’s identity has not been released to the public. Local officials also have asked residents and social media users not to post the teen’s name, photos or other personal information.

Police also investigated reports of the teen’s activity in online gaming, including his use of the game Roblox. But investigators have not established any direct link between online gaming and the alleged crime. Officials also said there was no information connecting the minor with illegal drugs.

Panglao officials meanwhile appealed to the public to remain calm and to refrain from spreading unverified information about the case. Police officers and local officials told residents they are still monitoring the situation.

The incident has sparked concerns among residents about family relationships, children’s behaviour and the need for proper guidance at home and in school.

Law enforcement will continue to collect evidence and work with social service agencies as the case makes its way through the legal system. The court will determine what happens next in the case, including where the minor should go.
