Two young boys from Rizal have been honoured with the Batang Bayani Award by the Calabarzon Regional Police Office (PRO 4A) for their remarkable bravery in preventing a robbery. The award ceremony took place on April 9, 2024, at the Rizal Provincial Police Office (RPPO) headquarters in Taytay, coinciding with the celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan.
Acts of Bravery
The two boys, whose names have been withheld for their safety, were recognized for their crucial role in thwarting a robbery at a convenience store in Binangonan in February 2024. Brigadier General Paul Kenneth Lucas, PRO4A director, highlighted the unique heroism displayed by the boys, stating that the award acknowledges their “exceptional bravery and civic-mindedness in aiding police authorities in preventing a robbery.”
Presentation of Awards
General Lucas personally presented the certificates of recognition to the boys. While details on how the boys assisted the police were not disclosed, Lucas noted that their quick thinking and decisive actions were instrumental in the successful apprehension of the suspect. “Their exemplary conduct not only upheld the values of heroism but also served as an inspiration to the power of community vigilance and cooperation,” Lucas added.
Incentives and Scholarships
In addition to the award, the boys received incentives, including a pair of shoes each and scholarships from A Better Chance Foundation, Centro Escolar University, and the Provincial Group for Police Transformation and Development.
Community Inspiration
Lucas emphasized that the boys’ actions serve as a reminder that individuals of any age can contribute to their community. “This is proof that not only police officers like us can be heroes, but also ordinary citizens, whether young or old. Their actions will forever be linked in the history of Calabarzon, and it is a matter of pride that we can share it on ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ where we give importance to the bravery of these children.”
