The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Romblon District Engineering Office (DEO) has finished building the Pag-alad to Jun Carlo Flood Control Structure in San Andres, Romblon. This will help protect agricultural land and improve flood protection measures.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is committed to improving flood mitigation infrastructure across the country, and this project is a part of that. It aims to control strong water currents and stop soil erosion along riverbanks and rice fields nearby, especially during typhoon season when flooding can be very dangerous to lives and livelihoods.
Orly T. Bangalisan, a farmer from San Andres, thanked the project and remembered how hard it was for their community before it was finished.

“Nakakabuti po sa aming komunidad itong bagong flood control dahil napipigilan nito ang pag-apaw ng tubig sa aming mga bahayan hindi gaya noon kawawa kami dito dahil yung tubig umaapaw sa mga aplaya, sa mga pananim. Sa ngayon po malaking pagpapahalaga namin sa project na ito at nagpapasalamat po kami sa DPWH na nagtaguyod upang mapagawa ang flood control na ito,” Bangalisan said.
District Engineer Elena M. Castilan wrote to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, and said that the finished flood control project is 226.80 linear meters long. To make sure that the structure lasts a long time and stays stable, it has sheet piles for bank and slope protection, rubble concrete, and concrete slope protection.

The new infrastructure makes it easier to control the river’s water level during heavy rains, which lowers the risk of flooding and protects nearby rice fields from damage. This improvement not only protects local communities, but it also helps crops grow more consistently and lowers the amount of money lost in farming.
The Pag-alad to Jun Carlo Flood Control Structure is now finished. This is another step forward in DPWH’s ongoing work to make communities stronger and support long-term growth in Romblon and the whole MIMAROPA region.
