The Thursday Murder Club, an international bestseller by Richard Osman, will be adapted into a film by Netflix featuring an all-star cast. It will be produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and directed by Chris Columbus.
In order to solve cold cases, four retirees—Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Sir Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie)—give up their peaceful pastimes of knitting and puzzles. Their amateur detective work takes a serious turn when a real murder shook their quiet retirement community.

Brosnan was unable to resist playing the vivacious Ron Ritchie. “I really liked the book and the script that Chris Columbus sent me,” the actor said. The summer was so much fun working with Dame Helen, Sir Ben Kingsley, Celia, and Tom (Ellis). It was also like coming home to work with Chris, whom I’ve known for a long time. When he told me he was going to turn it into a movie, I immediately said yes after reading everything. It had everything.
According to Tom Ellis, who portrays Ron’s son Jason, he was equally thrilled. “They were all already cast when I got the call,” he said, laughing. “Where should I sign?” crossed my mind as I jotted down the names. I had the opportunity to work with my heroes for six weeks. “Every day felt like I was the luckiest fan in the world.” This was a dream come true.

Ellis also discussed his first day on set, which was the most amazing event in his life. Everyone in the film loves my part. Actually, though, I was the one who was in awe. “Oh my God, it’s unbelievable that I’m standing here with Helen, Sir Ben, Celia, and Pierce,” I exclaimed. I will never forget that peculiar moment.
Because of its stellar cast, renowned director, and compelling mystery at its core, The Thursday Murder Club is one of Netflix’s most eagerly awaited releases.
