Marcos Departs for State Visits to Brunei and Singapore

Beginning with a state visit to Brunei, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will next make an official visit to Singapore.

There will be a meeting between President Marcos and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on May 28 and 29, when he visits Brunei. Improvements in security and defense, tourism, agriculture, energy, and other important areas are anticipated to be the topics of discussion between the two leaders.

“In our 40-year history, the Philippines and Brunei have maintained very friendly relations, based on mutual respect, trust, and confidence. Brunei has been a reliable partner of the Philippines,” Marcos said in his farewell speech on Tuesday at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

“I am confident that our partnership with Brunei in these important sectors will further strengthen our political, economic, and people-to-people ties,” he stated.

President Marcos is scheduled to depart from Brunei and proceed to Singapore. He will be the first sitting leader of the Philippines to give the keynote lecture at the International Institute for Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 there.

As a chance to clarify his administration’s position on defense and diplomacy, President Marcos called the gathering a “very important dialogue” and underlined how timely it was. He would also emphasize the Philippines’ dedication to constructive multilateralism and an international system based on norms in the face of the region’s present geopolitical difficulties.
