Famous singer Lea Salonga shared that she and her husband Robert Chien are no longer together. They have been separated for some time.
Salonga talked about this in an interview on Wednesday, January 21. She said she is happy that Robert has found happiness. Robert, who is a businessman, now has a new partner.
Even though they are separated, Salonga and Robert work together to support their child, Nic Chien. She explained that Robert and his partner help take care of Nic. “If you have a cold, I will send you food. I will make sure you’re okay,” she said.
Salonga did not share many details about why their marriage ended. She chose to keep that private.
The singer also talked about raising her son Nic, who is a trans man. She said that children cannot be changed to fit what parents want. “Every kid is like a surprise box. You get what you get,” she explained.
Salonga knows that some people do not agree with how she supports Nic. But she said her job as a mother is to help her child. “I have to do what I need to do to help my child,” she said.
Salonga and Chien got married in January 2004. Their son Nic was born two years later.
Today, both mother and son work in theater. Salonga is performing in “Les Misérables World Tour” and Nic is in the show “Spring Awakening.” They both acted together in “Into the Woods” last year.
