Many fans are now asking if Squid Game will have an American spinoff. This started after actress Cate Blanchett appeared in the last episode of Season 3. But Netflix has not confirmed anything yet.
In the final moments of the show, the Frontman, played by Korean actor Lee Byung-hun, is seen in Los Angeles, California. He rolls down his car window and sees Cate Blanchett’s character playing the Korean game “ddakji” in a dark alley with a man. They share a serious look before she continues slapping her opponent every time he loses.
What made people curious is that Blanchett’s character wears a sharp black suit, just like the Recruiter (played by Gong Yoo) from Season 1. That’s the same look used to invite people into the deadly games.
Also, fans wonder why the Frontman is in California. Some think he may be there to find Seong Gi-hun’s daughter. This made many people believe the story might be moving to the United States.
Even if we don’t have answers yet, the last episode gave many clues that Squid Game may not be over. These small hints (called “easter eggs”) could mean that a new season or a spinoff might be coming.
In 2024, rumors spread that an American version was in the works. Reports said famous director David Fincher might lead the project. Fincher is known for hit movies like Fight Club, Gone Girl, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. He also helped create shows like House of Cards and Mindhunter.
Fincher has won many awards, including Grammys, Emmys, and a Golden Globe. He’s also directed music videos for stars like Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Justin Timberlake.
Even with all the talk and Fincher’s name involved, Netflix has not confirmed anything about making Squid Game outside South Korea.
The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has said several times that he is finished after Season 3.
In Season 3, the main character Gi-hun comes back to the games after trying to fight the Frontman. He seems more serious and broken this time. The season ends with a surprise — a baby is born on the island where the deadly games take place.
