IN PHOTOS: Call For Loss and Damage Fund Financing

Advocacy groups in the Philippines have intensified their calls for developed nations to fulfill their obligations to fund climate finance.

At the heart of their demands is the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), which they argue must be filled with “trillions, not billions” to address the catastrophic impacts of climate change on developing countries.

Speaking at a recent mobilization in capital Manila, Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) coordinator Lidy Nacpil condemned the inaction of Global North governments, stating that their failure to meet financial commitments exacerbates the suffering of vulnerable communities in the Global South.

The rally, attended by over 200 people, came just a week after COP29, where activists criticized a meager climate finance deal of $300 billion per year by 2035, far below the estimated $447 to $894 billion annual economic losses faced by developing countries by 2030.
