Greater Safety Measures Implemented in Gasan, Marinduque

In Barangay Masiga, Gasan, Marinduque, the DPWH Marinduque DEO has completed construction of a new flood control facility. Over 700 residents of the barangay mentioned above are protected by it.

Six sitios, including families in Quatis, Ibaba, Ilaya, Puno, Dos, and Talinya, are directly benefited by the project. About 80% of the residents of these areas are farmers, primarily growing rice and other staple crops.

The changes were explained to Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, Regional Director of DPWH MIMAROPA, by District Engineer Richard Emmanuel P. Ragragio. The construction is 135 meters long and is supported by 9-meter-long sheet piles and geotextile tubes, he said.

The goal of this engineering project was to safeguard people from the frequent floods of the Libtangin River, which can endanger jobs, property, and lives.

By shielding houses, farms, and other valuable property from the damage caused by the recent tropical storms and the southwestern monsoon, the new flood wall significantly reduced the town’s risk of flooding.
