TORRIJOS, Marinduque — A newly completed road project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Marinduque District Engineering Office has transformed travel and accessibility in the municipality of Torrijos, providing a vital boost to local communities and farmers.

The Malibago–Balagbag Ridge Road (Phase 1), located in Barangay Malibago, has significantly improved the once-rough and impassable terrain between Malibago and Balagbag. Before the project, residents and farmers faced hour-long travel times due to poor road conditions, making it difficult to transport goods and access nearby areas.
Improved Connectivity and Economic Impact
With the completion of the project, travel time has been reduced from one hour to just 10–15 minutes, greatly improving the mobility of farmers, traders, and residents. The smoother and safer route has enhanced accessibility for all types of land transport, facilitating the movement of agricultural products and boosting local economic activity.

District Engineer Richard Emmanuel P. Ragragio reported to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, that the project involved the concreting of 1,940 linear meters of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), measuring 6.10 meters wide and 0.23 meters thick, along with 1.50-meter-wide concrete shoulders on both sides.

The project also included the construction of 1,865.40 linear meters of lined canal for proper drainage and the installation of 30 solar street lights with pedestals to improve road safety and nighttime visibility.
In Line with the “Build Better More” Agenda
The completion of this road project aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “Build Better More” infrastructure program, which aims to create long-lasting and inclusive economic growth through improved connectivity and regional accessibility.

“By ensuring safer and more efficient roads, we empower local communities, strengthen trade, and support sustainable development,” DPWH officials noted in the report.
With the Malibago–Balagbag Ridge Road now open to motorists, Torrijos residents can look forward to a more convenient, productive, and connected future.
