Burauen Secures Semifinal Spot; Tanauan Bounces Back on Day 35 of Lolita Cup

JARO, LEYTE – In electrifying matches on August 4, 2024, Day 35 of the Lolita Cup Season 2 Basketball Tournament finally secured its first team going to the semifinals. The Jaro Gymnasium witnessed the matches between Burauen and Dulag for the first game, and Tanauan and Carigara for the second one.

Game 1: Burauen vs. Dulag (5:00 PM)

For the first game, the Burauen Volcanoes clinched their second win of the quarterfinals, defeating the Dulag Karatong 65-63 at Jaro Gymnasium. This hard-fought victory secured their place in the semifinals, much to the delight of their supporters.

The game was a tense and closely contested battle from start to finish. Both teams displayed exceptional defensive skills, making every point hard-earned. The Volcanoes, however, showed remarkable resilience and determination, edging out their opponents in the final moments.

Dondon Tan, Burauen’s floor general, was pivotal in this victory. His leadership on the court and his 13-point contribution were crucial in navigating the team through the intense pressure of the game. Tan’s ability to make key plays under pressure earned him the Player of the Game accolade.

Game 2: Tanauan vs. Carigara (7:00 PM)

In the second quarterfinal match of the evening, Better and Brighter Tanauan achieved their first win of the quarterfinals, decisively defeating the Carigara Cobras with a final score of 84-64. The match showcased Tanauan’s determination to rebound after a challenging start to the quarterfinals.

From the outset, Tanauan played with intensity and focus, quickly establishing a lead and maintaining it throughout the game. The Cobras struggled to keep pace with Tanauan’s relentless offensive and defensive efforts.

Mel Ivan Parungao was the standout player for Tanauan, delivering a remarkable 20-point performance. His scoring ability and overall play were instrumental in Tanauan’s victory. Parungao’s efforts on the court earned him the Player of the Game title, as he led his team to a crucial win.
