Better Roads, Safer Travel for Roxas, Oriental Mindoro

The Barangay San Rafael section of Calapan South Road in the Municipality of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, has undergone preventive maintenance and rehabilitation, completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Southern Mindoro District Engineering Office (DEO). This will contribute to the infrastructure’s durability and strength.

The project involved an asphalt overlay covering 0.8720 lane kilometers with a 12.8-meter-wide carriageway and an 80-mm asphalt thickness, according to a report sent by Southern Mindoro District Engineer Annielyn E. Padullo to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III.

According to engineer Padullo, several advantages of the road maintenance project include the addition of a protective surface layer that helps postpone complete reconstruction, improving driver comfort, and increasing road safety by making it more difficult for vehicles to skid. Additionally, drivers find it easier to see in all types of weather conditions due to the stark contrast between the road markings and the asphalt pavement.

According to the DPWH, such road repair projects are crucial for maintaining the economy and movement of people in Oriental Mindoro, in addition to the safety of those who use the roads.
