Angelina Jolie, a famous actress from Hollywood, said she is very worried about the state of free speech in the United States. She also said that she doesn’t recognize the country she calls home right now.
On Sunday, September 21, at a press conference at the San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain, Jolie said this while promoting her movie Couture. When asked what scared her most as an artist and as an American, the actress paused and called the question “very hard.”

As she said, “I love my country, but this time I don’t know it.“
The actress who won an Oscar went on to talk about how important it is to protect free speech and inclusivity. She said that her experiences abroad have always shaped her personal life and worldview.
“I’ve always lived in other countries, and so have my family and friends. My view of the world is one that is equal, united, and international. Jolie said, “So anything separates or limits people’s freedoms and expressions is very dangerous.”
She said these things while thinking about what she called “very heavy times” for her fellow Americans. She talked about how hard it is for both artists and regular people to get along when there are political and social divides.
