Torre Accepts Baste’s Boxing Challenge

PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III and Davao City Acting Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte are both training hard for their upcoming charity boxing match.

General Torre has been practicing at the Camp Crame gym. He’s doing shadow boxing, bag drills, footwork, push-ups, and sit-ups.

Meanwhile, Baste was seen training on Wednesday night, preparing for the fight. He said he must still prepare even though he used to be a boxer so that he won’t embarrass himself.

“I’m old now and my stamina isn’t what it used to be. I don’t punch as hard anymore,” Torre admitted.

Torre said the boxing match will raise money for victims of natural disasters. He accepted Baste’s challenge and said he is ready to fight for 12 rounds.

Originally, the match was planned at Smart Araneta Coliseum, but it will now happen at Rizal Memorial Coliseum this Sunday. Torre confirmed he will be at the venue as early as 9 a.m., especially since many sponsors are now supporting the event.

Torre said it’s up to Baste if he shows up. “It’s his decision. I’m ready anytime,” said Torre, who is part of the PNP Academy Boxing Squad.

Torre is five years older than Baste, but Baste is physically bigger.

A video showed Baste training, but it’s not clear if this was after he challenged Torre.

In a vlog, Baste claimed Torre was only brave because he holds a high position. He challenged him to a real fight.

Baste also gave a condition: “If you really want to fight, why add charity to it? Tell your boss, the President, to say that all elected officials must take a hair follicle drug test.”

Some netizens criticized Baste for setting conditions and called him a “coward.”
