Vice President Sara Duterte has publicly dismissed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag, calling him a 'nobody' during an interview in Zamboanga City. Her comments came in response to ongoing investigations by the NBI into assets linked to her and her family.
The Vice President stated that she is not interested in Matibag, emphasizing that no one cares about him, after he challenged her to file a case if she felt he was biased or acting inappropriately. "I am not interested in him. Nobody is interested in Atty. Matibag. He’s a nobody," she remarked.
Regarding the NBI’s fact-finding investigation into her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), Duterte assured that she will provide an explanation directly to the Office of the Ombudsman rather than engage in disputes with Matibag. She highlighted that her SALN is already under scrutiny in an impeachment context, reinforcing that the Ombudsman is the appropriate venue for her response.
Duterte criticized Matibag’s earlier claims, suggesting that they are inaccurate, and reaffirmed her commitment to addressing the issues through the correct legal channels.
