The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Philippines has dismissed three officials in Davao City amid an ongoing investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) into alleged irregularities involving flood control projects.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon announced the dismissal of Davao District Engineer Richard Ragasa, Assistant District Engineer Lilibeth Sarmiento, and Construction Chief Roberto Mamaril. They are part of a total of 12 officials from the DPWH who are facing charges recommended by the NBI to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
NBI Director Melvin Matibag stated that the agency has advised the DOJ to file complaints against several DPWH officials as well as Genesis88 Construction. The allegations include violations of the Anti-Graft and Corruption Practices Act and Falsification by Public Officer. The Genesis88 Construction had reportedly received contracts worth 7 billion pesos for flood control projects in the first district of Davao City.
In addition to this, Secretary Dizon also dismissed Engr. Roberto Catingub, the construction chief of the Cebu 4th District, due to alleged extortion of contractors. Dizon indicated that further investigations are ongoing, with more personnel expected to face scrutiny in the coming weeks.
