Russian Strikes Leave Kyiv and Several Regions Without Power

Kyiv, Ukraine — In one of the worst attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in months, Russian missiles and drones hit Kyiv and eight other regions overnight, leaving them in the dark.

Authorities said that more than 540,000 customers had their power restored, but many homes still don’t have power. Twelve people were hurt in Kyiv, a seven-year-old boy was killed in Zaporizhzhia, and several others were hurt in Cherkasy.

The Russian Defense Ministry called the attack a “massive strike” that used high-precision and hypersonic missiles to hit Ukraine’s energy network. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attacks “cynical and calculated” and asked the U.S., Europe, and the G7 to send more air defense systems and make sanctions even harsher.

More than 450 drones and 30 missiles hit energy facilities, cutting off power and water to thousands of buildings. While emergency crews keep working on repairs, officials are putting up “invincibility tents” to help people deal with power outages.
