The Department of Education (DepEd) has inaugurated a new four-classroom building at Banti Elementary School located in Oriental Mindoro. This initiative aims to provide improved and safer learning environments for a total of 152 students, including 132 who belong to indigenous peoples communities. Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the importance of inclusion in education, highlighting it as a priority for both President Bongbong Marcos and the DepEd.
This new construction is part of the 2024 national budget and is funded through the Last Mile Schools Program. It showcases the use of alternative construction technology, aimed at enhancing sustainability and resilience. The new classrooms come equipped with essential educational facilities such as solar panels, chairs, and blackboards, which represent significant upgrades compared to the previous temporary structures that had been in place.
Teacher-in-Charge Anhing Luarca noted the considerable advantages of the new building compared to the makeshift classrooms that were previously used. She pointed out that the sturdily built structure is designed to withstand severe weather conditions, unlike the old facilities, which were prone to damage during storms. This durability is crucial for maintaining a conducive learning environment, particularly in regions frequently affected by adverse weather.
The introduction of these classrooms is seen as a pivotal contributor to the educational development of the students. Luarca mentioned how providing these resilient learning spaces allows students to focus better on their education, which in turn can benefit their families and communities in the long run. By improving access to quality education, the initiative supports the broader goals of social upliftment and community resilience.
Overall, this new infrastructure reflects a commitment to enhance educational facilities in remote areas of the Philippines, particularly for marginalized groups. The Banti Elementary School development indicates a positive step toward fulfilling the necessity for inclusive educational reforms and building a brighter future for indigenous students.
