The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Albay 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) of DPWH Region V-Bicol has completed the rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged road sections with slips, slope collapse, and landslides along Mt. Mayon Park Road, a crucial route leading to the scenic Mayon Skyline View Deck in Tabaco City, Albay.
Protecting Lives and Boosting Local Tourism
The project involved the construction of 71.22 meters of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) with a 4.85-meter width, alongside a 65-meter slope protection structure and a line canal designed to enhance drainage efficiency. These improvements are expected to reduce the risk of landslides and protect nearby communities and motorists, especially during the typhoon season.
DPWH Albay 1st DEO officials said the rehabilitation was a vital step in ensuring the safety and accessibility of roads near Mt. Mayon, which has been prone to erosion and slope instability due to heavy rainfall and volcanic activities.
“This project does not only secure the lives and properties of residents but also sustains tourism activities around Mayon Skyline,” said a DPWH representative. “Improved road conditions encourage more visitors to experience the breathtaking views of the volcano while supporting local livelihoods.”
