Representatives from civil society groups and public sector stakeholders from Asia and other Southern regions met in Quezon City for the Multi-stakeholders’ Forum and Asia Strategy Workshop from June 20-22, 2024.
The event, dubbed as “UN Tax Convention Now! Rewriting the Global Tax Rules to Work for People and the Planet,” aims to call on the governments of the Global South “to persevere in their unity to overcome divide and rule tactics of the OECD countries in forwarding their agenda.”
Present during the event were Lidy Nacpil, Asian’s People Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) coordinator; Dr. Dereje Alemayehu, Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ) executive coordinator; and Jeannie Manipon and Arjun Karki, Tax and Fiscal Justice Asia (TAFJA) co-Coordinators. Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) also co-organized the gathering.
