Willie Revillame: No Senate Run Amid Political Tensions

MANILA, Philippines — Six months after declaring his decision to enter politics, TV presenter Willie Revillame has withdrawn his intention to run for the Senate.

During an appearance on TV5’s “Seryosong Usapan,” Willie disclosed that he is prohibited from entering politics by his recent contract with the network.

“I’ll be honest, I have a contract with TV5. It states, no politics,” he said.

Willie mentioned that he will continue serving the public through his show instead.

“What do politicians want? They have the money and, of course, the power. Many have money but no power. That’s the big difference for me,” he explained.

“What power do I have? A (noontime) show. Several presidents have come and gone, but ‘Wowowin’ is still there after all these years. I’ve been on the noontime show for a long time,” he added.

He also expressed frustration with the current political climate, citing a lack of unity.

“With what’s happening now, how can you join? It’s difficult. It’s just constant fighting,” he said.

“I get frustrated,” he added.

Willie had declared last January that he was ready to run for senator in next year’s mid-term elections.

“Dear President (Duterte), I am praying for this. I am ready to serve the people now, especially those in need,” Willie had said.
