In Baco, Oriental Mindoro, better roads transform lives.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office (DEO) just finished building a new road that has changed the lives of people in Barangay Mayabig in the Municipality of Baco, Oriental Mindoro. Mayabig used to be far away and impossible to get there by road. It is now steadily becoming more accessible to trade, tourism, and local growth.

District Engineer Salvador E. Abad issued a report to DPWH MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald A. Pacanan, CESO III, indicating that the project comprised creating a 0.20-meter-thick, 5.00-meter-wide concrete pavement on top of a 0.20-meter-thick aggregate subbase course. The new road surface and 48.40 meters of line canal with cover were put in to help the area deal with floods better. This would assist the area to stay sturdy when it rains a lot.

Make Accessibility and Mobility a Priority

Many individuals used to have to spend a long time on uneven, muddy roads. They may now travel there safely and pleasantly in just 15 minutes. The enhanced road conditions are not only making travel faster, but also safer, especially during the rainy season when the ground used to be practically impossible to walk on.

Helping the area’s economy and tourism

The project will have effects that go beyond merely transportation. Better roads make it easier and faster for farmers to get their crops to local markets. This saves money on shipping and damage. More people moving around is also excellent for local businesses because it increases commerce and opens up new avenues to make money.

Barangay Mayabig is known for its stunning scenery and natural wonders that haven’t been found yet. It is also anticipated to have more tourists. People are more inclined to explore the area’s hidden waterfalls, rivers, and eco-tourism attractions if they can access to them more readily. This is a positive thing for the environment and Baco’s traditional legacy, and it also gives people new options to make money.

Benefits for society and culture

The road improvement would help the economy and make it easier for residents in and around the barangay to get to know each other. Families can now travel to schools, health clinics, and government services more conveniently. This easier access helps neighbors get along and makes public services run better.

Also, the growth helps people feel proud because it indicates that things are becoming better and offers credit to communities who don’t usually get any development help.

Getting ready for disasters and the environment

The line canal system is a sign that DPWH is thinking ahead by adding flood control measures in the building of new infrastructure. This is very significant for Oriental Mindoro because it rains a lot and floods. The project makes sure that the money lasts by working on both transportation and lowering the risk of disasters.

A Step Toward Growth That Everyone Can Take

The Mayabig road project shows how crucial it is to bring development closer to communities that are far away. This kind of infrastructure makes it feasible for even the most isolated barangays to enjoy modernity, better living circumstances, and a better quality of life.

This growth isn’t just about developing roads; it’s also about making opportunities for advancement to reach every region of Oriental Mindoro.
