Police in Calabarzon reported the arrest of a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) district engineer who allegedly offered more than ₱3 million to a Batangas congressman in exchange for dropping an inquiry into questionable infrastructure projects.

The suspect, identified as “Abe,” a district engineer based in Balayan, Batangas, was apprehended during an entrapment operation in Barangay Poblacion Zone, Taal, Batangas at about 7:45 p.m. last Friday.

Police documents state that the bribe was intended to prevent Congressman Leviste from pushing through with a planned investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding DPWH projects in Batangas’ 1st District.
Leviste immediately reported the incident, which led to a coordinated police operation and the engineer’s arrest, PRO-4A confirmed.
