Labor group Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP) amplified their call for the implementation of a progressive wealth tax and a 750-peso legislated wage hike during a workers’ forum and press conference at the University of the Philippines Integrated School in Quezon City on June 29, 2024.
The forum is held together with Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) and Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM). Leody de Guzman, president of PLM said the forum is the start of their wage hike campaign ahead of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr in July.
Atty. Luke Espiritu, president of BMP said the legislated wage hike and wealth tax are the simple solutions to poverty.
