PALO, Leyte–The Commission on Population and Development Region VIII (CPD VIII) is calling on communities across Eastern Visayas to champion informed choice and access to quality reproductive health services as the region joins the global observance of World Contraception Day.
The observance, marked annually on September 26, highlights the importance of enabling individuals and couples to make free and informed decisions about family planning, a right that CPD VIII says remains central to building healthier, more resilient communities in the region.
“Family planning gives people the knowledge, freedom, and support to make choices that are right for them and their families and to build the future they envision,” said Gloren R. Hinlo, CPD VIII Acting Regional Director.
Director Hinlo emphasized that ensuring access to accurate information and respectful care is a shared undertaking across the region.
“As a region, let us work together to ensure everyone has access to accurate information, quality services, and respectful, nonjudgmental care,” she said.
She also noted that when individuals and families are empowered to exercise informed choice, the benefits extend beyond the household.
“When people have the knowledge and freedom to choose, families thrive and communities become stronger,” Director Hinlo added.
In line with this year’s observance, CPD VIII reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to family planning information and services across Samar and Leyte provinces, in partnership with local government units and health stakeholders.
“Let us champion informed choice, dignity, and a healthier future for all,” Director Hinlo said.
CPD VIII’s call to action for this year’s World Contraception Day: Your choice. Your future. Our shared responsibility.
