Chants of “Cancel the debt” and “Climate justice now” echoed inside the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas complex Friday, as around 500 activists marched to the International Monetary Fund office to protest policies they say have driven decades of debt, poverty and climate injustice.

The Manila action, led by the Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD), was part of a Global Day of Action against the IMF and World Bank, with coordinated protests in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America as finance ministers and central bankers met in Bangkok for the annual meetings of the two Bretton Woods institutions.
