A forensic financial analyst recently reported in an impeachment trial that Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Attorney Manases "Mans" Carpio, allegedly made extravagant credit card purchases totaling over ₱600,000 during two separate visits to Nike stores in Davao City and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Testifying before the Senate impeachment court, analyst Atty. Alexander Cabrera pointed out what he described as "unusual or questionable banking behavior" in the couple's financial records. He noted that the couple recorded a significant shopping spree at the Nike Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur, where their credit card expenses reached ₱256,882.50.
Additionally, Cabrera revealed that they also spent around ₱300,000 in a single day at Nike in SM Davao, suggesting a pattern of high-value purchases. Beyond footwear, he mentioned that the couple charged ₱205,000 to their credit card for a meal at Ginza Inakaya, a restaurant in Tokyo, Japan.
Cabrera was presented by the prosecution to support allegations against Duterte of holding undeclared assets and unexplained wealth since assuming the vice presidency in 2022.
