In a decision dated September 28 and made public on October 8, the ICC's Trial Chamber III concluded that Duterte is capable of effectively exercising his fair trial rights and is therefore deemed fit to face judicial proceedings.

The ruling is based on assessments and medical evaluations conducted by an independent panel of experts, alongside submissions from both the defense and prosecution. The Court noted that Duterte possesses the ability to understand the charges against him, the objectives and potential outcomes of the trial, as well as the evidence that will be presented.

The experts also found that Duterte can track the proceedings and provide appropriate instructions to his lawyers for preparing his defense.

Furthermore, the Trial Chamber rejected the defense's request for an additional medical examination, as well as the motions to question the panel of experts and for an oral hearing.

The trial is scheduled to commence on November 30.
