MANILA, Philippines — Chef-vlogger and social media star Ninong Ry has gone viral after posting an emotional rant on Facebook about the recurring floods and corruption that continue to devastate millions of Filipinos.
In his post, Ninong Ry shared how his family has endured flooding for most of his life. He admitted that while he often makes light of the situation in his content, the reality is painful.
“Buong buhay ko, binabaha na kami… Oo kaya natin, pero deserve ba natin?” he wrote.
The content creator recalled losing appliances, family albums, and other valuables to floods. He also recounted a particularly difficult moment when severe flooding struck shortly after his wife gave birth, forcing him to consider carrying her and their children to safety.
Ninong Ry also criticized alleged corruption and mismanagement of funds intended for flood control projects, calling it an insult to hardworking taxpayers.
“Ang sakit sa loob natin. Bilang mga taong nagbabayad ng buwis, para tayong iniputan sa ulo,” he said, adding: “Hindi natin deserve na paulit-ulit anurin.”
